Cornwall has been struggling ever since tin and copper mining declined. The hardships suffered by the Duchy are underlined by the fact that there has been a need for Europe’s highest level of funding. Now Cornwall faces being hit again as the Government maps out how it is going to cut spending. Cornwall Council’s chief executive officer, Kevin Lavery, has given us plenty of warnings over recent months that we are about to go through a harsh time. We are warned that jobs will go and services will take a hit.

The size of the dent is underlined by Cllr Mark Kaczmarek. He is in charge of the council’s housing portfolio and has told Kernowpods that a 50% cut in funding for social housing will leave many needy people facing bleak times.
