I am a freelance journalist for two radio stations: Atlantic FM and Radio Plymouth. This involves getting into work early (in some cases) and finding out from a variety of sources what has been happening (or what is happening). These sources include: Devon & Cornwall Police, Falmouth Coastguard, Cornwall Fire & Rescue, MET Office, email, and Twitter.

The relevant local stories are then written into short ‘cues’ – and in some cases there is audio to be attached. These stories are then selected and put into a bulletin incorporating a selection of relevant stories sent down by Independent Radio News.

Once the bulletin is in shape, it is read through several times to spot typos and difficult pronunciations. I like to get into the studio a few minutes ahead of the bulletin to ‘get into the zone’ – finally the news intro goes out and I’m on-air.
