MERIFIC is a collaboraltion between Cornwall, Isles of Scilly and the Finistere region of Brittany to develop marine renewable energy solutions over the next three years. The £4 million project has been launched in Falmouth at the National Maritime Museum. Delegates from both sides of the Channel met to discuss the opportunities and challenges they face.
It is hoped to bring forward the technology to increase the amount of electricity generated using waves, tides and offshore wind to a point where more than half of our needs are fulfilled by 2050.
The project itself will continue up until 2014. Kernowpods attended the conference on behalf of Business Cornwall.
