SOWSNEK

Sharp’s Brewery has been bought by international drinks group, Molson Coors, for £20 million. The buyers have said that they want to keep the brewery at Rock. It produces 75 thousand barrels a year. There are eighty people working at the brewery, which makes the famous beer – ‘Doom Bar’.
This is important news for Cornwall because we are proud of our beers. There are many brewery names that are well loved, among them: St Austell, Skinners, Sharps, Wooden Hand, Keltek, and many more smaller brewers.
We really must all support drinks made in Cornwall – and indeed every type of food too.

NOTES

We have discussed the phrase: ‘res yw dhymm’ before (meaning: ‘I must…’). Now we find in this article: ‘res porres yw dhyn…’ (meaning: ‘We really must…’). The word ‘porres’ emphasises the importance of ‘res yw dhyn…’, giving it added urgency. It derives from ‘pur res’ (meaning: ‘very necessary’). If you want to ramp up the urgency even more, you can follow it with something like ‘dres ehen’.
So, to write: ‘res pores dres ehen yw dhymm mos tre’ can mean ‘I really really really have to go home’.
