SOWSNEK

Morning early of the 17th of month November and there came rain heavy and sudden on Cornwall East. So heavy it was that there was streets and houses filled with a flood big. Lostwithiel was one of the towns drowned with the flood. The water came on down the River Fowey in a current strong and hardly not there was a warning at all. Necessary it was to a hundred family move out of the town and lodge with friends. Places other were flooded in the area as well, among them Pentewan.

Now there is services trying to clean the town and dry houses in order that it may be possible for people to re-inhabit in them. As well and that, there is questions about to goodness (quality) of defences flood.

NOTES

It was terrible news seeing towns and villages in East Cornwall washed out with flooded waters – bringing back memories of the Boscastle flood. Cornwall has always been exposed to the elements, which while they have caused destruction at times, have also offered opportunities. The seas have provided fish while the winds now generate electricity.
