Export Cornwall Anniversary

Happy first birthday to an organisation looking to grow the amount of trade Cornwall does outside of the UK.

Export Cornwall is about making Cornish companies aware of the opportunities of selling to markets outside of the UK. The organisation is part of UKTi and is working with businesses who export and operate reactively. The team try and structure their approach to avoid the costly pitfalls. Export Cornwall ask questions such as: what are there distributin channels going to be; how will their logistics work; how do they approach foreign business cultures?

I asked Export Cornwall’s David Bone about exporting services, as we so often hear talk about selling ‘things’. In this podcast, he told me that you would be amazed how many Cornish companies export services such as ICT and graphics.

So what other Cornish export has amazed David Bone? He tells me that he was surprised by the success of one firm selling sports coaching software abroad – customers include the All Blacks rugby team and the Gaelic Athletic Association.

David Bone has also been working through Partner To Succeed to improve the way that companies manage capacity. This is an incredibly important part of sales growth strategy and especially if you are looking to export successfully. Listen to his advice:
