The Cornwall Blind Association held its Annual General Meeting at the Eden Project on Thursday 28th October 2010. The Cornish charity filled a large hall with members, supporters, volunteers and staff to celebrate all its successes.

Success was the main focus of the day – looking at the great work done by all the volunteers. The key theme that came through was how dependent the CBA is on volunteers – raising money, helping people with visual impairments and holding events.

Another focus was raising awareness of a big fundraising event being held next March. Stride for Sight is a sponsored walk from coast to coast. If you can manage the eleven miles – go for it. If you can only manage a short distance – every little helps!

Volunteers were very much in evidence at the AGM – where they got to find out how essential their work is. Several speakers mentioned the fact that without their input, the amount of help provided by the charity would be diminished. Volunteers spoke too and expressed how putting in a few hours a week enriches their lives and that it has also developed a new family or community for them. Delegates were also told about scientific findings in America that showed how a volunteer is driven by a passion for improving the world rather than making money. Volunteers were celebrated
