Someone recently told me that people should be ‘responsible for other people’s hearing’. This means that when you say something, it can mean one thing to one person, but have a totally different effect on another.

In short, it is saying that we should think through what we are going to say first and then say it. How many times do you blurt things out and then have regrets later on?

Essentially, being ‘responsible for other people’s hearing’ is a good thing to consider – not only regarding the words you use – but what tone you adopt too.
