Newquay Zoo

Newquay Zoo is not just a place where it is great to take the family, but it is also an educational resource for schools, as well as carrying out work in helping conserve rare species.

I have been to the Zoo on the North Cornish coast to speak to Education Officer Mark Norris. He showed me one of the children’s favourites – the meerkats:

Not all of the work Mark does involves animals directly. He has been researching how the zoo had to grow its own vegetables during WWII because of rationing. So he has set up a veg patch at Newquay Zoo – and has been seeing which animals prefer what produce:
